Hey Max,will you be posting roms for the sprint htc one?also any roms that support all variants of this device?

It appears that it’s not possible at this time. I came here looking how to install the OTA because when it tries to install, because you have a custom recovery, it wouldn’t do it automatically. When I found that the OTA Update was in the Downloads folder, I selected it and tried to install; it. How ever it says it fails. Zedomax: I hope you can help us here with the OTA updates!!! Also I would like to hear more about the Sprint version one.

OTA updates can NOT be appllied to rooted phones. once rooted you need to update/reflash with an updated rom. some roms now offer ota updates to their existing rom. this maybe what you are looking for once rooted.

Please let me know if it is possible:

Q: To update OTA on a rooted phone, I can uninstall the TWRP recovery, and go back to original stock recovery, (if needed unroot the phone as well), update the phone, then root it again.
          Is it true?

I rooted my HTC One M7, Android 4.4.2, HTC sense 5.5, software number 4.19, with the instructions above. Now it is rooted, TWRP recovery installed, s-on.

Now, my phone says new update is available: HTC Sense 6, software number 5.11.401.
Will the rooting method above work if I apply this update ?

          thanks

Hello, thank you for this great work.I rooted my HTC one successfully and I have some questions:
Can update my Htc one to the 4.2.2 jelly bean over WiFi? if yes, whats about the root does it stay in the phone or not?
Can I root my Htc one after this update or not??

you might want to stick with custom ROMs once rooted or grab a rooted version of 4.2.2 on XDA and install with TWRP.

I found no mention at all in the tutorial for backing up contacts (which is arguably the MOST important information stored in the phone. All the data (pics, videos, settings, apps) were mostly fine after I did the process. But I’m now kicking myself and pretty annoyed that I’ve lost all my current contact info. I had to restore from my old phone, which was severely out-dated and I’m still missing a great deal of information now. Highly suggest that your guide include a big time warning about this category of backup/recovery.

If I may….most users of android phones have set up gmail accounts wich stores and backs up all your contacts/photos/calender info also

    Reply
      1. Ryan

Then that is, arguably, your fault. Max mentions very early in the rooting process (as in, before the root ever takes place.) that unlocking the bootloader will completely wipe your phone data. When backing up with ADB, it is specifically mentioned that only app data is being backed up, and that it was up to you to back up ALL data found in your Internal Storage(Yes, that includes contacts, since you don’t use Gmail and should be privvy to the fact that your contacts are stored in your phone, not on a Google cloud server). And last but not least, Max warns again right before the root takes place that your Internal Storage had better be backed up, and he will not accept blame since he mentioned multiple times that you need to backup your data. The fact that you complain about this and put blame on Max not only implicates you as bad at following instructions, but also immensely fucking stupid.

Hey, thanks for the videos. I just had a question: I’ve made it through the entire process up to getting to the TWRP screen. I have tried several times to go back to the command screen and input the following text:
    ./fastboot-mac flash recovery openrecovery-twrp-2.5.0.0-m7.img
    Following that, I input:
    ./fastboot-mac erase cache
After that, I go back to my HTC One and go to the hboot screen then to the recovery tab. The screen then goes an HTC screen that says something along the lines of, “This is for development only…etc.” Then it goes into a boot loop. It doesn’t go to the twrp screen. I have tried several things, but cannot find the solution. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you for your advice, and I hope to hear from you soon!

HELP PLEASE! I watched the how to root HTC one video with Mac OSX and I successfully rooted my phone using TWRP. However when it came to installing a new ROM I backed up my HTC sense and copied it to my Mac and went to install a new rom (Modaco Switch Beta) however when backing up my phone I accidentally deleted all data from the TWRP now there is no OS on the phone and when I connect it to my Mac nothing is happening. Is there a was to install the back up from my computer onto my phone? PLEASE HELP EMERGENCY

    1. bogdan

First download fastboot folder and htc all in one toolkit.
1; boot TWRP, then select “mount” , then selecf only “data” and conect your htc one to computer.
2; copy your ROM zip (Modaco switch beta) in fastboot folder. Open a command prompt then type:
      Cd downloads\fastboot
      Abd push ROM.zip/ sdcard/.
Replace ROM.zip ehit the ROam filname you copied earlier to fastboot folder. This will copy Rom to internal storage, so once it’s done use Twrp to instal Rom. Sory for my english.

ok I have tried rooting my phone twice.

first time i used similar instructions from a different site (before i found yours) and i got all the way to the end screen using my volume key to say “yes” to the root, pressed power and the phone rebooted and like you said it wiped out everything on my phone. as far as i can tell i still dont have root access. loaded Titanum backup and Root Checker app and both say i do not have root access.

second time i followed your instructions and when i run the “fastboot flash unlocktoken Unlock_code.bin” coomand i get:

    sending ‘unlocktoken’ (0 KB)…
    OKAY [ 0.144s]
    writing ‘unlocktoken’…
    (bootloader) unlock token check successfully
    OKAY [ 0.008s]
    finished. total time: 0.156s

and the boot loader page stays visible

    what did i do wrong?

Just got my HTC One for Verizon and one thing I noticed is the blotware kills the battery severely. Are there any roms I can install that will keep the IR functionality through HTC Sense? I have an S4 through AT&T running CM11 and battery lasts me a good 18+ hours on moderate use easily. That’s the one thing that I will truly use daily so I don’t want to loose the IR functionality like I did with the S4 running CM11. Thanks is advance

I am sick of this stupid HTC One, I made the mistake of buying it off EBay. It used to be on Vodaphone and never downloads an update tells me I am on a system variant. Currently I have a GiffGaff Sim in it which works on 02. I thought rooting it will wipe everything so I can have a clean phone. Is this correct?
Also I can’t get it to give me the token, when I type in for an identifier as told by Max, all I get is waiting for device, then nothing happens.
Shall I just smash this thing up now? It tells me also that this is a “test device” WTF does that mean? I have tried HTC to help me and they are rubbish.
