For this week’s HTC One ROM of the Week, check out LiquidSmooth ROM, available for both original HTC One M7 and the new HTC One M8.  (BTW, this is my daily driver on my M8!)

Based on latest Android 4.4.4, you will get blazing speeds, great battery life, and countless number of great customization options.  I know some of you swear by GPE (Google Play Edition) but GPE has hardly any customization/shortcuts you can do compared to something like LiquidSmooth ROM.

The latest version of LiquidSmooth seems to run super smooth and also even comes with custom kernel for those of you with M8.  Everything runs fast and smooth out of the box, you will also enjoy the latest Google Camera working great/fast including PhotoSphere, LensBlur and Panorama.

Inside LiquidSmooth Settings menu, you will be able to easily add shortcuts which include a multitude of choices with App Circle Sidebar (my favorite), PIE Controls, Gesture Anywhere, Shake Events, custom Ring targets, and fully-customizable navigation bar.  It sickens me to run any stock Android anymore as lack of shortcuts makes it much less efficient than a ROM like this one.

For notifications, you will get a load of options like HALO, HOVER, Active Display, and even Lockscreen notifications.  In fact, Google likes Lockscreen notifications so much that they are adding it to the next Android 5.0. You don’t have to wait that long, just enjoy it now with LiquidSmooth ROM.

Overall, LiquidSmooth ROM is a nice combination of performance and customization options on the latest Android 4.4.4.  Don’t be left out in the dust with stock/Sense ROMs, definitely check out this ROM over the week(end) and do let me know what you think!

IMPORTANT! – If you have HTC One M7, you need to be running the latest CWM v6.0.4.8 or TWRP Recovery 2.7.1.0a to install CM11!!!  You can grab the latest CWM/TWRP here and install using Flashify app.

To install, reboot into recovery, make backup ROM, wipe data/factory reset, install ROM, install Gapps, and reboot. (If for some reason you end up in a bootloop, reboot into recovery, go to Advanced Wipe for TWRP or Mounts & Storage for CWM, format/wipe /system, then re-install ROM.)

after flashing ROM and GAPPS the phone boots and starts the Welcome process, but constant messages of stopped processes. I have factory wiped and formatted /system several times and re-flashed ROM and GAPPS. Any thoughts on what to try next? Thanks… Dean

As a follow up I continued to work through the setup upon initial boot, selecting Ok on all the pop-up messages for stopped processes, etc. After a couple reboots, the system appeared to clean itself up and no more failed processes and services. At this point it is running very “smooth” with no issues.

Hey Dean, I had almost the same problem, but it was only the “Google Keyboard” for me. When first flashing the ROM I installed the ROM, rebooted, installed Gapps, and rebooted again. When flashing again like this, it worked fine: Install ROM, install Gapps, reboot.

Anyone know where I can force the 3 Button Action Overflow menu to show on screen for all of my apps? My old rom used to have an option.

Also I checked in Settings > Interface > Hardware Buttons no option for this for me.

Like if I’m in firefox to get to the options I would simply click the 3 dots at the top left… But on this rom they are not there and I’ve looked everywhere… In order for me to get to the options I have to set it on a hardware button

    Thanks

I flashed Liquidsmooth and Cynagenmod and with both ROMS I get no network service. I’m only able to use the phone over Wifi. Have this issue been reported before and is there a fix for it.

You may have to manually input the APN for your carrier. Go to settings > mobile network settings > Access Point Names.

I was on Insert Coin Rom and thought of giving LS Rom a go.
Flashed it and found my battery discharging like crazy. My phone was almost dead in 4 hours.
So I restored my backup of insert coin. The battery is amazing on it. Easily lasts me 24 hours on one charge.

HTC One M7 Sprint: My sons phone keeps shutting off the screen randomly at lock screen as well as seems to shut screen off with slight movement. All shake and gesture settings are tuned off, ect. Getting the feeling it’s an issue with the sprint version of this ROM. I am running this ROM on my Note 2 without these issues whatsoever. Any idea’s?

I downloaded the one Download LiquidSmooth ROM for HTC One M7 (For GSM like AT&T, T-Mobile, International, Unlocked) which was filename LS-KK-v3.1-2014-06-20-m7lte-GSM.zip – but When I load it it is set for Verizon and CDMA and it will not load my ATT sim card or the SIM card for the rural network where I live that uses verizon. It doesn’t even read sim. I went into the phone info and tried to manually set the preferred network but it keeps reverting back to CDMA and does not have any bands in the radio list. Is this a wrong file I downloaded? or it is something else?

Hi. I have an HTC ONE M7 with TWRP updated to 2.7.1.1 and I have installed LiquidSmooth International. Installation process and wipe is reported ok. But when I reboot I get the Liquid Smooth blue display with rotating ‘drops’ and from there on nothing happens. I left the phone in this state for 6 hours and it still was at this initial stage. I tried formatting /system from TWRP advanced wipe now for the 6th time but nothing changes, I get the rotating drop page and that’s it.
    Please advice…
    Thank you for any help.

I had same problem. Here is my solution. Do it your own risk.

I believe your partition is messed up. That is the most and main reason that most roms are not installed correctly.
In order to fix partition problem, wiping is not enough. Use CMW and need to FORMAT system, data and cache. Important,DO NOT FORMAT BOOT.

After formatting them, do not close CMW, you need to flash rom too before you turn off or shut down phone. Otherwise you have no rom and will face difficulty again.

Why use CMW? because for me it was easy to sideload from usb to flash rom.

By the way, if your partition is broken, you might find that adb command does not find devices but fastboot command find devices. And also you find that CMW or other recovery soft will tell you could not mount data, cache. And also when you plugged in to your computer, computer could not find data from your phone. This is all because partition problem. That what I found from long long long research and try and error. I hope this will help you some.

    Hi, I have a question.

My phone: HTC ONE SPRINT (M7) Black.

Used CMW to sideload flash rom from USB. Went well , to tell the truth, my phone was brick and could not do anything except fastboot. I accidentally erase rom and everything inside of the phone. After formatting system, data, and catch, I was able to install Liquidsmooth v3.2 and pa gapps 4.4.4 with cmw and sideload.

Seems like everything in working except some google apps. For instance, google store stop working and shut down. Therefor I could not update google store services. When I open the camera, it said need to install SD card. I checked storage and data usage, and it have great amount of memory available and ram is also looks good. I checked every solution for stopping google store, and none of them worked.

Seems like some of the app could not recognize the data storage, and that is the main reason many apps not working or shut down.

Chrome is in working condition, able to browse internet.

Do you know this kind of problem and how to fix? If so, let me know.

    Thanks in advance. Teddy

      Additional info

When I start using camera, it said that need to put SD card, but SD card is there. When I plugged in computer and move files to SD card, it would not. So I think this problem is all about permission of SD card. If I can change permission of the SD card, all google apps must work. I am searching how to change SD card permission from read only to open to the apps. Anyone who knows about it, I am appreciate your kindness. thanks.

    Hi Max..

I followed all the steps you had mentioned
    * rooted my HTC ONE M7
    * installed TWRP
    * Made a back up of the whole OS & data like you said 🙂
    * Tried flashing this LIQUID SMOOTH ROM, it errored saying “Error updating binary file…”
    * Read some where that i had to wipe current os, so that the directpry structure would change and only then this ROM could be flashed.
    * It was late in the night 3 AM , exactly AND I ACCIDENTALLY wiped out my entire OS + data, since the M7 has inbuilt storage, i ended up WIPING OFF my back up aswell 🙁

    * Now i have a very costly brick, for a phone which does not flash any of the ROM’s in your links,
    * I tried ADB SIDELOAD, it does not help. I flashed some OLD ROM (i found on the internet) for HTC one, but even after flashing, the device does not boot the OS. 🙁

    * PLEASE HELP ME , how can i get my phone working again.? Can i atleast get it back to stock.?
*why do you think i am getting the error while flashing any of the ROMs on your site.

    PLEASE PLEASE HELP

    Hi Max,
I followed the instruction, everything worked great until i tried to restart the device and i got a strange issue, in fact the restart took long time and it never finished.
During the restart i saw the message “Device is rebooting” and strangely i was able to use the system.
After a minute the screen went off, and now if i try to turn on my device i get a little vibration as the device was still turned on.
    If i push the button:
POWER + VOL – I get the sound of screen capture
POWER + VOL + I get an other sound
    POWER I get vibration
    BACK same
    HOME same
i’m waiting for the discharging, but the battery was at 100% and i don’t know what i’ve to do!!

    Thanks and
Sorry for my very bad english

    Hey Max,

First I have to give you prompts for making this guide and prmoting LiquidSmooth. I used this guide and a few others to help in flashing my phone. Most of the inspiration to change the OS came from watching your vids, so thanks!

So I can’t remember off hand if the phone you flashed is one you use constantly or if just a phone you had around but have some odd issues and not sure if you have gotten them or other people have as well. It started about 2 1/2 – 3 weeks ago when my phone started getting text messages and phone calls from people that aren’t calling my number at all. It’s also happened when some friends that are contacts send me texts I don’t get them but instead goes to a completely different person. Have you seen this at all? I’m searching through forms to find anyelse but figured would ask if you knew or not. Thanks again!

    Thanks,
    D
